The Department of Political Science, Faculty of the Social Sciences at the University of Ibadan, is set to host a valedictory lecture in honour of Professor Adebayo Okunade, marking his 70th birthday and retirement. The event is themed β€œIs Leadership Sufficient to Deliver National Transformation in Nigeria?”, underscoring a critical discussion on the role of leadership in national development.

The lecture, to be delivered by Professor Tunji Olaopa, Chairman of the Federal Civil Service Commission, will bring together an array of distinguished discussants, including:

  • Professor Remi Aiyede, Department of Political Science, University of Ibadan
  • Professor O. S. Afolabi, Department of Political Science, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife
  • Professor Emmanuel Ojo, Department of Political Science, University of Ilorin
  • Comrade Azeem Salako, Research Fellow, NIIA, Lagos

The event will take place on Wednesday, 12th March 2025, at the Large Lecture Theater, Faculty of the Social Sciences, University of Ibadan, commencing at 12 noon.

The program will also feature notable personalities, including Engr. Wole Agbaje, CFO of Idea Konsult Limited, as the Special Guest of Honor, and Professor Benjamin Ehigie, Dean of the Faculty of the Social Sciences, as the Chief Host.

Other notable attendees include Professor Adeolu Akande, former Chairman of the Nigerian Communication Commission, and Professor D. A. Yagboyaju, Head of the Department of Political Science at the University of Ibadan, who will act as the host of the event.

Professor Adebayo Okunade, a respected scholar and former Director of the UI Distance Learning Centre and former HOD of Political Science, University of Ibadan, has dedicated decades to academia, contributing significantly to political science research and education. This lecture celebrates his impactful career and life as he transitions into retirement.
